easyJet, Scotland’s favourite airline, has announced it will be sponsoring the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2011.

As part of the deal, the airline will fly many of the actors, directors and producers attending this year’s event into the capital.

This year’s Festival will showcase more than 90 features including 47 UK and international movie premiers starring big names such as

Ewan McGregor, Don Cheadle, Kim Cattrall, Bill Nighy, Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz.

The partnership with EIFF comes just a few months after easyJet’s successful sponsorship of the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival in March.

Hugh Aitken, easyJet’s Scotland commercial manager, said: “As Scotland’s favourite airline, we are keen to get involved with many of the world’s leading events to which this country plays host each year.

“easyJet brings thousands of visitors to the capital each month, many of whom are attending  EIFF and we are therefore delighted to sponsor the event this year.

“We are also looking forward to welcoming many of the world’s most influential industry figures attending the festival onto our flights into the city.”

Graeme Davies, Head of Commercial Development, Centre for the Moving Image, added: “The Edinburgh International Film Festival has a dynamic new programme in place this year, a result of a re-think to re-invigorate the festival for modern audiences in our 65th year.

“We are delighted to announce easyJet as one of our new partners and look forward to working together on some great projects.”
